Meet Scott, the creative behind the nuMONDAY shop Toadstool Crafting.

“Craft for me is a creative outlet that enables me to turn my imagination into reality, every time I sit down and craft I am in essence testing my skills of creation and making something from nothing but an idea.”

Can you introduce yourself and what is it you do?

I live in Forest Town in Nottinghamshire, the county of Robin Hood!

I’ve been an avid crafter all my life and have tried various different crafts, but after I discovered polymer clay I instantly fell in love with the many colours to choose from and the endless creations I could make with these coloured blocks of clay.

Product: Shell Resin Pendant £7-£8

What is it working with the materials that you particularly enjoy?

I hand-make jewellery from both polymer clay and resin, as I live in a very dense woodland area, most of my items are inspired by aspects of nature and the woodlands that surround the area I live in.

I personally love using polymer clay as a medium for my crafting because I love the hands-on approach it allows me to take with my items.

“E-commerce and selling online amazes me at the fact that people from all over the globe and various countries can view and purchase my items.”

How do you make your items?

I mould and sculpt all of my clay creations by hand, seeing my vision come to life is something I’ll never tire of!

Product: Bee Necklace £8.50-£10.50

Tell us a bit about your studio or where it is you work from?

Currently, I make all my items from my home.

E-commerce and selling online amazes me at the fact that people from all over the globe and various countries can view and purchase my items.

Product: Lead Necklace £8-£9

Is there anything within your studio or workspace you could not live without?

The one thing I couldn’t live without in my work space would have to be windows, a weird one I know!

But as all my inspiration comes from nature, I only have to look outside for a second and see an array of things that spark new ideas and thoughts for me to create.

“One thing that I have learnt from all my makes is that even if you aren’t completely happy with something you’ve made, you can learn from that and think of other creative ways to achieve a product that you are pleased with.”

What does craft mean to you?

Craft for me is a creative outlet that enables me to turn my imagination into reality, every time I sit down and craft I am in essence testing my skills of creation and making something from nothing but an idea.

One thing that I have learnt from all my makes is that even if you aren’t completely happy with something you’ve made, you can learn from that and think of other creative ways to achieve a product that you are pleased with.

What is your proudest achievement so far?

My proudest achievement so far is being featured in an article in my local newspaper.

After finishing the sixth form at Garibaldi College I decided that I wanted to put my full effort into this, receiving the recognition and encouragement from people in the local area as they became aware of my business through this newspaper was just the motivation I needed.

Getting this feature is something that I will be forever be proud of and it is something I achieved completely alone at the age of 18, which I am very happy with.
